Ahoy and Welcome Back!

First off, thank you to all our customers for their prompt attention to the slip deposits and contracts in December. We were able to get a good jump on slip assignments for 2023. I'm happy to report we have another full house for this season with several on a waiting list.

The staff are hard at it preparing for the season. Stocking shelves, completing training sessions and working on projects to keep the Marina in top shape.

We are looking forward to a busy season and to seeing ya'll very soon.

Spring Service Work

Due to the mild winter, we have been able to get on board many boats and completed or partially completed service work.The forecast ahead remains mild. It's a good to time to book your service work now. As launch approaches, we start to prioritize work orders as to what can be done after launch. Booking now might insure everything that can get done will get done before launch.

Contracts and final payment

A reminder that your payment for the annual slip package was due March 1st.

In order to have your boat launched this season the following will need to be in place.

Full payment of accounts
A signed 2023 and paid in full slip contract
Current insurance information along with $2 million dollar liability coverage.

Staff for 2023

2022 was a challenging year for operations at the Marina. As we move into the 2023 season, we have made some operational changes but are still light on the service staff. As you can appreciate it is difficult to attract trained

technicians to our sport. Seasonality, location and experience are uphill battles.

Fortunately, our existing staff are crossed trained in most areas of the operation and can keep your boats functioning as they should.

It is an industry wide problem.

D Dock Re-Fit

We have started a dock re-fit program. This program will span a couple of winters and involve re-decking of the oldest docks at the Marina. These docks were established in the early '80's when the provincial government had a program to support Marina's with a dock purchase program. The docks were constructed of a pressure treated wood frame, pressure treated wood deck and Styrofoam filled rubber tires for floatation.

Since then, the tires have been replaced with plastic floatation tubes. With the pressure treated wood frame structurally sound all that is needed now is new decking.

We have started at the east end of D dock and are working inwards. Next season will see similar efforts on C dock.

Cool Stuff

Ever wonder were the word "Posh" came from

We use the word today to refer to classy or upscale persons. Back in the days of early cruise ships and before air conditioning, wealthy passengers preferred the cooler cabins that did not face into the sun and would pay more to get them. Their tickets were marked "POSH" which stood for "Port Out, Starboard Home. There must have been a lot of requests for this in order for the word to have evolved as it has.

Third-Party Support

Wiarton Marina has always prided itself in being a full service Marina. And we still are. From onsite fiberglass repairs, rigging, electrics, mechanical and general service we still have those capabilities. All be it from our own staff or third-party support. Often, we find due to the complexity of new systems or specialty tool requirements we need to call on third party support. Although not a new concept, in these days of a challenging labour market it's a good go to resource. And we have many of them. Whether sending out a stern drive for a rebuild or calling on refrigeration support we will continue to support our customers and their boats in every way possible
